Formula Renault Asia, Zhuhai
No Retreat After Disqualified
Otosport, 6 October 2008
It was Ryan Haryanto’s extraordinary fighting, start from 22nd place (at the last of start line), but finally he, who is from Solo, was able finishing on 6th overall or 2nd Asia. That happened on Race 2 Formula Renault Asia championship, in Zhuhai Circuit, China (21/9). Ryan’s enthusiasm didn’t fade although he got disqualification in Race 1 before.

If Ryan’s mechanic was not negligent in fueling up, it might be a different story. Because the mechanic didn’t load the fuel from board, Ryan as a consequence hit the penalty by disqualified after Race 1; whereas in fact he finished on 2nd place in Asia.

Of course this made Sinyo Haryanto, his father, getting worried. “There was fuel residue from the race before. So that was used. But in fact, though it is same, it was not permitted. All the competitors had to use the fuel provided by the board.” said Sinyo.

As the consequence, Ryan had to back the car up to the start position in Race 2 on Sunday from 6th to be 22nd place in other words it was on the rear place. That wasn’t an easy race for Ryan considering the race in Zhuhai circuit is always difficult because of the host drivers’ perseverance, Hong Kong and Macau. “I could overtake the drivers one by one because my car is better than on Saturday,” said Ryan. Finally, the driver who just finished his education in Singapore could finish on 6th overall or second Asia category.

This result was same with his achievement in Race 1 where was he got the disqualification. Cao Hong Wei who is from China won Asia category meanwhile the third champion was Zuo Xio Long who is also from China. Hong Kong, Jim Ka To won two races which were held in Zhuhai circuit, the pride of Zhuhai society.

Sinyo Haryanto and Indah Peniwati’s son did not dream if the negligence was not made by the mechanic, he might be able to finish well. “It might be better. But, I take what happened as a lesson. That a race preparation can not be just playful but we must definitely understand the applied regulation,” said the driver supporting Champ Motorsport Team and sponsored by Djarum Black. Bud
